Sepi was our first Pharaoh Hound bred by Barbara Steele. Through her care I learned the many unique intriques of this breed. I was impressed with her attentiveness to our youngest daughter who was just a bit over a year of age upon Sepi’s arrival. She traveled much of the country with us, on family vacations, and from her we learned that one could trust this breed on many levels. In 1989 we bred her to Ch. Auten’s Aladdin, which produced our first home-bred champion, Selli. Beyond family, Sepi’s main enjoyment was to hunt and course. She finished her ASFA Field Championship. But she absolutely hated the show ring. Though she had 13 points and both of her majors toward her Bench Championship, I choose to break her away from the show ring. And I know that she never missed it. She reigned as the “benevolent pack leader” until the day of her leaving.

Selli was our first home-bred champion. He was comical and always a gentleman. We chose to keep him out of the litter due to the elegance that he had. He sired 4 litters and produced a total of 12 Bench Champions, 6 Field Champions, an Obediance titled Pharaoh and one agility titled Pharaoh. Selli’s greatest asset was his neck/shoulder/front assembly that he stamped on his offspring. Additionally he had an incredible level of patience with young children and puppies. He was an avid courser and hunter. He could hunt or course for hours and never show sign of tiring. This was a trait that he passed on to a number of his offspring.

Isis is from our second, generation home-bred litter. Always the sure one, she is today, at just shy of 12 years, a very active matron of the household. She finished her Bench Championship in rapid style with majors from the puppy class over the open adults. In the one attempt to lure course, she figured out rather quickly that the white bunny wasn’t, when it didn’t head for cover. After a very loud sneeze to proclaim obvious indignation over this ruse, she wandered back to the start and did a very lovely down stay. Though she has never coursed the plastic bunny again, or attempted to teach her offspring, she is ruthless on live rabbits even to this day. Ironically, she has produced multiple Best in Field offspring.

We believe that her ease of movement an active lifestyle has contributed greatly to her lifespan. She has always had a very free, flowing, effortless movement passed down from her sire, Selli. She spends her days hunting the property, which has abundant game, snoozing close to the fireplace and watching over the youngsters.

Phoenix was from the first breeding of Isis to Drifter. He is a dog of energy and immense affection. A deep colored, stunning boy and my pick from the litter. I had originally not planned on placing him. That was before a little boy named Evan Epstein came to my home for a visit. I believe that Evan was somewhere around 3 years of age at the time and Phoenix was 12 weeks. The family was looking for a pet. It was very apparent from the moment that Evan walked into my house, Phoenix had chosen him. So it was up to us adults to figure out how this was to work. In the end we worked out an agreement. Phoenix became Evan’s companion and I had the ability to take Phoenix from time to time and show him. He was bred only once and stamped his offspring with his headpiece and flamboyant personality.
At the 1995 PHCA National Specialty, in Trenton NJ, he went Reserve Winners Dog in the Class competition and Best of Opposite in Puppy Sweepstakes. Phoenix went on to finish his Bench Championship the same specialty weekend with a major win.

Betty and Gordon Davis of Khufu Pharaoh Hounds, after much consideration, chose Phoenix to be bred to their, Group Placing homebred, Amber.

Terra is litter sister of Phoenix. She was my daughter’s Pharaoh Hound for a great many years. Terra loves children and would do anything for Crystal. She learned obedience in very little time and Crystal and her would go about the neighborhood rollerblading. Crystal attempted to show Terra once at a show and the two of them became so frustrated that they both quit. Lure coursing is what Terra and I did together. And then one day, our daughter Crystal became a teenager and didn’t have time for Terra. By this time Terra had made her mark coursing in Region 4 and had started to accumulate Best in Field wins both AKC and ASFA. But without the attention of Crystal, she was no longer happy with the game, so I placed her with a fellow Pharaoh owner, Paula and her daughter Amber. With another child to fill her days, Terra once again woke up her love of life. After she whelped her one and only litter, she went on to start and finish her Bench Championship in a few short weekends with majors. And then in September of 2000, at the Grand National Lure Course in Colorado, she went on to beat out the youngsters and win the Pharaoh Hound Breed from the Veterans class. Terra is now retired and watching over life at the home of Paula and Eddy Newcomb.

Lotus came into our lives like a whirlwind. She burns with a fire and amusement for life that belies her age. I will always be grateful to Betty and Gordon Davis of Khufu Pharaohs, for allowing her to come live in our home. She, like many of our hounds is an avid hunter and seems to love all things about life. She was chosen by Sepi, in late ’97, to be the new pack leader. I personally believe that Sepi chose well. Lotus guides our hounds with the same benevolence as her predecessor.
At 6 months of age, Lotus attended her first PHCA specialty. She was awarded Reserve Winners Bitch and Best Puppy in Specialty. She has gone on to win Award of Merit at the ’97 PHCA National Specialty, Award of Merit at the 2000 PHCA National Specialty. At the end of 2000 she was ranked #8 Pharaoh Hound in the Breed after retiring from the show ring in July of 2000. She was bred and whelped her first litter in 2001. At the National Specialty in 2002, Trenton, NJ, her offspring were first in their classes both days, and Lotus went on to be awarded Best Brood Bitch.
